MFA Education – Academic Writing Courses

Every strong essay is a journey.

We teach students how to plan the route.

This is a structured, instructor-led Academic Writing Course aimed at students in advanced college-level programs, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), and A-Level. The course is designed to prepare candidates for university admission, as well as those taking the IELTS and TOEFL exams. It focuses on helping students transform a blank page into a well-argued and properly cited essay.

Starting Age: 14 years old · Suzhou & Shanghai

More than an essay-writing class — a structured route from blank page to a well-argued, properly cited essay.

Built for the essays that actually decide things

Coursework and Extended Essay

Framing a research question, building a thesis that holds up, and structuring longer academic arguments.

Writing Personal Statements

Turning a life experience into a focused, well-structured piece admissions officers actually finish reading.

IELTS Writing Tasks

Timed-writing structure, paragraphing and academic register for the writing sections that move a band score.

Writing Research Papers

Citation, evidence integration and academic integrity for students writing their first formal research paper.

THE ROUTE

Six stops between a prompt and a finished essay

Each session builds on the last — the order below is the order we teach it in, because each stage depends on the one before it.

1. Thesis & Argument

Turning a prompt into a specific, defensible claim — the single sentence the rest of the essay has to serve.

2. Structure &Paragraphing

Building an outline where every paragraph has one job, and topic sentences that actually signal what's coming.

3. Evidence & Analysis

Choosing evidence that earns its place, and writing the analysis that connects it back to the thesis.

4. Citation & Academic Integrity

Correct in-text citation and referencing, and understanding where the line on academic integrity sits — and why.

5. Voice & Academic Register

Moving from conversational to academic tone without losing the writer's own voice underneath it.

6. Revision & Editing

A repeatable self-editing process students can reuse on every essay after this one.

A student’s sentence, shown before and after one feedback round in step 6.

Before:

“Since I was young, I have always been interested in science, and I think it is very important.”

After:

When our robot’s arm first held the egg without breaking it, the entire team held their breath for a moment and then cheered loudly.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

What a student leaves with

A thesis-building process they can apply to any prompt, not just the one practiced in class.

A working essay outline template for structuring longer academic arguments.

Correct in-text citation habits, and a clear understanding of academic integrity expectations.

A self-editing checklist to revise future drafts without waiting on outside feedback.

One fully workshopped essay or personal statement, ready for submission.

Direct instructor feedback on their own writing rather than a rewritten version of it.
